The Vancouver Sun

“one of Vancouver’s most accomplished compositional voices.” (Georgia Straight)

Composer Jennifer Butler writes music for people she loves. She works with quiet and fragile sounds juxtaposed with loud, forceful moments, layered textures, and silence.

Her Modulus Festival concert celebrates the release of Butler’s new album, a collection of achingly beautiful music written for – and performed by – extraordinary musicians, all long-time friends and collaborators.

The afternoon features intimate music that invokes the earth and sky, draws on poetry and dreams, and transitions from soft gentle melodies to the release of unexpected tension. It’s music that fills the soul.
