Featuring Julia Chien, percussion

Meet Julia Chien, an amazing percussionist who plays in orchestras and rock bands. In Julia’s Music Room, you’ll hear the sounds that send Julia to sleep as she dreams of her grandma in Taiwan who used to sing a famous Japanese folk song to her. BUY TICKETS

Gamelan Music Room ($5)

Meeting Point B

Featuring Gamelan Kembang Telang

Feel the shimmering textures and hypnotic rhythms of Balinese gamelan music in the Gamelan Music Room. With mallets in each hand, the three performers of Gamelan Kembang Telang use a special interlocking rhythmic technique that reveals beautiful and complex patterns that fit together like an intricate musical jigsaw puzzle. Tsatsu Stalqayu (Coastal Wolf Pack)

Exhibition Hall

Tsatsu Stalqayu (Coastal Wolf Pack), the multigenerational, traditional Salish song and dance group, opens BIG BANG with song, dance and stories.

The Carnival Band

Exhibition Hall

The Carnival Band brings joy, fun, and good times whenever they play.  Follow them as they march throughout the Roundhouse!

Bounce House

Performance Centre

Come take a rhythmic jump in the Bounce House, the BIG BANG bouncy castle! At the Bounce House, you don’t just jump at random: drummers follow the jumping children like a living score to create a rhythmic and musical soundtrack. Featuring drummers Kevin Romain and Jen Yakamovich.

Silent Disco

Room B

Listen through headphones and move your body to the tunes that Niña Mendoza is playing just for you at the BIG BANG Festival.  Why not be imaginative? Speed up and slow down, move together, and then solo again. Do you think the other people dancing can hear the same music as you? Come find out.

NOISE-O-GRAPH

Mezzanine

Come make a sound into our novel machine: the magnificent, mechanical, NOISE-O-GRAPH! In mere moments, the machine will take your supplied sound, consider it, and produce a one-of-a-kind drawing based on it for you to keep. Contrived by Roundhouse artist-in-residence Alison Woodward, this gizmo is powered up and ready to translate your noise. Come one, come all, to try the fantastic NOISE-O-GRAPH!

Oncle Höonki’s Fabulous Hornshop

Exhibition Hall (behind the stage)

Led by artist and musician David Gowman, Oncle Höonki’s Fabulous Hornshop is filled with magical musical instruments like wooden horns and locally grown pan flutes.  Come make some sound!

Festival Jam!

Kick start your afternoon at BIG BANG!  Listen in on the Carnival Band and festival musicians as they have a fun jam session on stage in the Exhibition Hall!

Comic Book & Mural Making

Discover the world of comics and help make a mural with the artists from Cloudscape Comics Society.  Stop by their table in the Exhibition Hall, amplify your artistic talent, and have some fun with their comics-meet-music activities.

Scavenger Hunt

Lobby

This year’s BIG BANG Ambassadors have made a brand-new scavenger hunt!  Go at your pace or race through the Roundhouse solving the clues. Return your clue card to the lobby for a little prize.

The Classical Ball

Gymnasium

Basketball and Beethoven? Volleyball and Verdi? Drop in to the Classical Ball and play some BIG-BANG-influenced ball sports!  This year, we’re filling one of Vancouver’s favourite places for basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer with a classical music playlist.  Come check it out!
