Music, Memory, and the Land

Cree multidisciplinary artist, composer, and classically trained flutist Vee Sparvier-Wells brings together music, language, dance, and sound to explore the connections between land, identity, history, and home. Rooted in her Cree heritage and shaped by her experiences as an Indigenous and Two-Spirit artist, her work fuses together traditional language and dance with her own contemporary experiences. Formerly known as Jessica McMann, Vee is in the process of reclaiming her birth name.

Her award-winning album Incandescent Tales was named YYC Music Classical Album of the Year in 2022, and her next album, Prairie Dusk, is an evocative collection of commissioned works and original compositions inspired by the sounds and stories of the prairies. Through music and soundscapes that reflect on belonging, disconnection, and our relationship with the land, Vee invites listeners into a deeply personal and expansive sonic world.

For A Month of Tuesdays, experience a solo performance by an artist whose work brings together tradition and experimentation, opening up new perspectives and unexpected connections through sound.
