The Accordion, Reimagined

An instrument rarely associated with classical music, the accordion takes centre stage in the hands of Danish musician Andreas Borregaard. Drawn to music for its ability to create a deep connection between performer and listener, Borregaard approaches each performance as an opportunity to challenge expectations and invite audiences to experience sound in a new way.

In Vancouver, Andreas will share pieces that explore performativity beyond simply playing the accordion, including Philip Venables “My Favourite Piece of Music is the Goldberg Variations” and Laura Bowler’s “Power Play.” With curiosity and a willingness to push beyond the conventions of classical performance, he explores the capabilities of the accordion, revealing an instrument that is as expressive as it is unexpected.

More than simply showcasing the impressive range of the instrument, his artistry questions what it means to perform and experience music today.
