one of the very best quartets of their generation

Formosa Quartet’s players are mavericks in the classical genre—all young, energetic, and award-winning musicians—and the force behind brilliant new compositions and fresh, exciting performances of the great classical repertoire.

Winners of the First Prize and Amadeus Prize of the 2006 London International String Quartet Competition, the Formosa Quartet makes their Music on Main debut with Edward Grieg’s passion-filled and seldom-heard String Quartet No. 1.  Also on the concert is the Vancouver premiere of Chinese-American composer Lei Liang’s Song Recollections—a “sublime, often breathtaking” piece that builds on the folk song traditions of Taiwan’s aboriginal tribes to create a stunning modern masterpiece—and American Dana Wilson’s Hungarian Folk Songs.
