Cindy Kao

Cindy Kao is a Taiwanese-Canadian performance artist, (Ketegalan and Siraya Nations) based in Vancouver (Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh Nations). She received a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts for Theatre Performance at Simon Fraser University and is a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained on the violin. Prior to her degree, as a violinist, her works include performing in the International Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bremen, Germany, Tafelmusik Baroque Institute at the University of Toronto, Banff International String Quartet Competition Young Musicians Program, as well as various events and awards with the Performing Arts BC. During her time in the Theatre Performance Program, Cindy was re-acquainted with music, performing as an actor while being a sound designer in the 2016 Blackbox shows. Since then, most of her work with SFU has allowed her to explore her background as a musician and execute her training as an actor. Her most recent works include “Dear Ocean”, presented by Vines Art Festival 2020, starring in a 2021 short film “A Family Act”, and producing an EP with Aysha Dulong as their duo Sapphire Haze.
