Aliayta Foon-Dancoes

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Aliayta has played with professional ensembles including the Victoria Symphony, the Sidney Classical Orchestra and the Galliano Ensemble. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Violin Performance at the Royal Academy of Music with Gyorgy Pauk. She was recently placed on the London Symphony Orchestra Scheme, and will be performing with the LSO three times this season. A graduate of the University of Victoria, in the Fall of 2015, she played the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the University of Victoria Symphony. She is a two-time winner of the Vancouver Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition; won the 2011 Shields Scholarship in the Vancouver Academy of Music’s Senior Secondary Competition, was a fellow at the 2017 Aspen Summer Music Festival where she performed as concertmaster and assistant concert master. She has received scholarships to attend NYU Steinhardt, Orford, Tafelmusik, Switzerland’s Astona Music Academies and Morningside Music Bridge. Aliayta was a prize winner in the Vancouver Women’s Music Society’s 2017 competition, won first prize in both UVic’s 2014 Bach Competition and the 2015 Concerto Competition. In Vancouver, she studied with Andrew Dawes (Orford and Tokyo Quartets) and then at the University of Victoria with Ann Elliott-Goldschmid (Lafayette Quartet).
