Get ready to be hypnotized. Created by Nancy Tam, a performance-maker, composer, and sound designer, Walking at Night by Myself explores perception, social acceptability, and individuality with one small but powerful tool: a projector.

In a world where real news and fake news overlay, and social acceptability is considered on a sliding scale, how we see ourselves and each other often conflates and conflicts. Poetically examining how we individuate in contemporary society, this work creates a world of visual and aural interference pattern: Moiré – a phenomenon where the human brain involuntarily perceives a third unpredictable pattern while observing two repetitive, misaligned grids superimposed on each other. This show transcends the spectacular to the phenomenological: from seeing to experiencing.

After premiering at Emerge on Main 2018, an excerpt of Walking at Night by Myself toured Hong Kong and in April 2020, it is going to be part of the sonic & syllable series at Montreal, arts interculturels. Unsettling and illusive, this piece will hold you captive long after the performance is finished.

This concert is generously sponsored by Elinor Vassar.
