A beloved tradition returns for three nights of energizing sounds
As the calendar stretches towards its longest night, Music on Main returns to fill Heritage Hall with the sounds of one of Vancouver’s favourite winter traditions.
This year, expect a luminous night of music energized by extraordinary performers. Canadian Folk Music Award-winners James Hill (ukulele) and Anne Janelle (cello) join long-time Winter Solstice collaborator Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa (piano) for a night of great tunes, new sounds, and deep connection.
Performing together as Champagne Weather, James Hill and Anne Janelle artfully connect folk/roots to modern minimalism. Every song is a shimmering blanket of sound with flashes of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Appalachian fiddle and Maritime folksong. Their music wraps around the audience, creating transformative musical moments.
World-renowned pianist, “keyboard virtuoso and avant-garde muse” (Georgia Straight) Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa brings her extraordinary artistry to the concert, playing intimate, powerful, and unexpected music.
Music for the Winter Solstice is the annual concert that audience members call “a musical meditation of winter colours” and “the holiday special I didn’t know I needed.” After years of sold-out performances, this cherished winter tradition expands to three nights at Vancouver’s Heritage Hall.

Accessibility
Heritage Hall (located at 3102 Main Street) has two entrances, one at street level and one up three steps of standard height, approximately 20 feet of flat surface, and 26 lower-than-standard-height steps. There are handrails beside all the staircases.
For the accessible entrance, please inform the staff member who will be stepping outside regularly and they will open the gated doors to the right of the main entrance. These doors are required by the venue to be kept closed, and so staff will need a couple of moments to accommodate. Staff will also need to open this door when patrons are leaving.
The main room is fully-accessible, with chairs set up throughout. Chairs are not fixed, and therefore can sometimes be moved to create a barrier. Staff are on hand to assist with removal if necessary. The main floor has a single-stall, gender neutral washroom, but please note that there is no auto door opener. Additional washrooms are located down a spiral staircase of approximately 20 steps.
