Mad in Moonlight: New and Timeless Sounds

Join Standing Wave, Western Canada’s leading contemporary chamber ensemble, for Mad in Moonlight, an evening of luminous and boundary-pushing music.

The program features the world premiere of Night and Day by internationally acclaimed Canadian composer Linda Caitlin Smith, alongside Terry Riley’s mesmerizing Half-Wolf Dances Mad in Moonlight (1989), arranged by Marcus Goddard. Standing Wave also pays tribute to Keith Hamel, who recently retired from UBC after decades of shaping Vancouver’s musical life, with a performance of his Dreamer (2017).

Rounding out the evening are Mariah Mennie’s ethereal …and the moon rang like a bell (2025) and Mason Bates’ epic Difficult Bamboo (2014), from the ensemble’s newly released album in an archipelago.

Presented by Music on Main and Standing Wave.

This concert is generously sponsored by Elizabeth & Alan Bell.

Fazioli Grand Piano provided by Showcase Pianos.
