Cellist Kate Ellis is artistic director of Crash Ensemble, a member of Martin Hayes’ Common Ground Ensemble and has collaborated with, performed and recorded with a diverse range of musicians including Bono and the Edge, Philip Glass Ensemble, Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon Giddens, Lisa O Neil, The Vernon Spring and Ye Vagabonds.
Recent projects include Artist in Residence at the Kilkenny Arts Festival and PEOPLE festival, Berlin. The composition of a film score for a feature length film to be released in 2027. Curation for MUSICA Strasbourg festival, France. The Irish premiere of Philip Glass’ Cello Concerto Naqoyqatsi, orchestral arrangements for Martin Hayes, The Vernon Spring and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. The release of a major new work for solo cello by composer Ed Bennett and the creation of new music in collaboration with Sam Beste (The Vernon Spring), Multi-Traction Orchestra and with UK and US based musicians as part of Brawl Records Echolocation project.
