Changes ahead for Alfredo Santa Ana

Alfredo Santa Ana, Music on Main’s General Manager, will step down from his position on October 31, 2014. His energy, commitment, and ideas have helped Music on Main develop and implement new programmes, increase contributions from foundations, and create rock-solid systems in the office. His departure will allow him to focus on his composing career.

Born in Mexico City, Alfredo completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in composition from the University of British Columbia. He was the inaugural Wall Composer in Residence at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies at UBC, and his compositions have been performed across North America by ensembles including the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Standing Wave Ensemble, Orchestra de la Francophonie, Turning Point Ensemble, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

In 2012 and 2013, Alfredo collaborated with legendary choreographer and dancer Margie Gillis for performances of their piece “On Fairness.” In 2014, his composition “For Pity Divine” set new poetry by Colin Browne as the finale of Music on Main’s The Orpheus Project. Though saddened by Alfredo’s departure, Music on Main’s board and artistic director look forward to hearing new compositions from Alfredo and are thrilled that he is pursuing his passion.
